Strathroy and Adelaide, Ontario

Strathroy, Ontario

St. John the Evangelist, Strathroy and St. Ann’s Church, Adelaide Village form a two-point parish midway between London and Sarnia.

The Chancel of St. John the Evangelist is shown above left which was restored in the 1990’s. The 4 windows either side of the centre window show The Nativity of Jesus, the Baptism of Christ in the Jordon, The Resurrection of Jesus and the Ascension of Christ.

While the current St Ann’s was built in 1868 there has been an Anglican church in Adelaide since 1833. Benjamin Cronyn and his family were on their way to Adelaide in 1832 but with his wife becoming ill, he was obliged to stop 26 miles short of Adelaide in London. He stayed there, built St Pauls Cathedral and 25 years later became the first Bishop of Huron.
