Delhi and Otterville

St Alban, DelhiThe Church of St Alban, the Martyr, Delhi (right) and St John’s Church, Otterville have been a two-point parish since 1979.

Anglicans have been worshipping in Delhi since 1840, first in private homes and then in an Orange Hall. United Empire Loyalist descendents and Irish immigrants formed St Albans. St. Alban’s was built on 9 acres of land given by Ann Eliza Lawson, daughter St John's, Ottervilleof one of the first settlers in Delhi. Much of the land was sold in the 1920’s and 1930’s to maintain the ministry. The church was built in 1878; the parish hall in 1939; the new rectory in 1957; and an addition to the parish hall in 1985.

The Rev’d Zena Attwood is retiring as rector effective the end of July with her last Sunday being the end of June.

Old St. Paul’s, Woodstock, Ontario

William BettridgeOld St. Paul's, Woodstock, OntarioChurch’s Website

Old St Paul’s was built in 1834. The sanctuary was added to the original rectangular building in 1843, and the transepts in 1851. William Bettridge (shown) became the first rector, remaining in that position for 45 years until 1879.

A decision was made to replace the building in the mid 1870’s with something larger. With the opening of New St. Paul’s, what was suppossed to be the final service was held in Old St. Paul’s in December of 1879. However, by Whitsunday, 1882, a portion of the congregation moved back into the old building starting Old St. Paul’s as a new parish.
