Christ (Anglican) Church, London, Ontario

Christ Church, London, OntarioChrist Church Website

Christ’s Church was consecrated in 1863; the building being designed by city engineer and architect William Robinson.

In the 1850’s London was a rapidly growing regional centre with a booming petroleum industry. The church was built south of the railroad tracks to accomodate the labourers from the various industries in the area. Funds for the building were raised by the "Ladies’ Committee" of St Pauls, the only other Anglican church in London, as well as from local businessmen.

In 1966, the Rev. Father Roland Palmer was invited to be "priest in charge" of the parish. He was brought in to revitalize the parish and when he retired 2 years later the diocese was convinced that the parish could continue. He was replaced by another "priest in charge" but in 1970 a rector was appointed and the parish had again reached a place of self-sufficiency.
